"Spread Love to Elders Mid-Autumn 2025" Event With Yan Chai Hospital Tang Bik Wan Memorial Neighbourhood Elderly Centre
On 13 September 2025, we were delighted to collaborate with the Yan Chai Hospital Tang Bik Wan Memorial Neighbourhood Elderly Centre in hosting the “Spread Love to Elders Mid-Autumn 2025” event.
Volunteers aged 11 to 18 from various secondary schools spent a delightful morning with over 30 elderly volunteers. They learned the skill of crafting handmade paper fans with Mid-Autumn-themed designs and, subsequently, accompanied by the elderly volunteers, experienced their first home visits to the elderly residents of Shek Kip Mei Estate.
This activity benefited more than 100 individuals. The elderly participants greatly appreciated the positive attitude of the young volunteers, who assisted in carrying and distributing Mid-Autumn gifts (red bags) to them. The students expressed that they had never previously interacted with seniors aged 90 and above and found the experience both remarkable and invaluable. They acquired essential communication skills for interacting with the elderly and gained insights into public housing conditions, which some had never encountered before.
This activity broadened the students’ horizons and bolstered their confidence, inspiring them to contribute more actively to society. Their appreciation and admiration for the experience serve as a stronger motivation than merely receiving a certificate.
Both the elderly and youth volunteers provided us with very positive feedback following the event.
